RCM: Sofía Medina

Schubert’s eighteenth piano sonata was described by fellow Romantic composer Robert Schumann as ‘most perfect in form and conception’. Award-winning pianist Sofía Medina pairs Schubert’s quiet nobility with three of 20th Century Rachmaninov’s characteristically stirring opus 23 preludes.

Mishra

Mishra are a global folk collective with strong roots in UK folk, formed by Kate Griffin and Ford Collier. Drawing on their unique base of influences that encompasses folk music of the UK and America, Indian classical music, and soul, they weave a tight web of intricate, Indian-influenced original music and a surprisingly accessible sound that audiences instantly connect to.

The Crucible

Leeds Conservatoire return to present the Miller masterpiece that dramatizes the famed Salem witch trials of Massachusetts.  This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International on behalf of Josef Weinberger Ltd. Written by Arthur Miller. A witch hunt in underway in Salem, where truth itself is on trial… A gripping tale of fear, betrayal, and mass hysteria, this timeless classic explores the devastating consequences of suspicion and lies. Don’t miss this compelling production of one of the greatest plays of the 20th century.

Opera North String Quartet

LEEDS LUNCHTIME CHAMBER MUSIC 24/25 OPERA NORTH STRING QUARTET Katie Stillman – violin Katherine New – violin David Aspin – viola Jessica Burroughs – cello Caroline Shaw Entr’acte Felix Mendelssohn String Quartet No 2 Rebecca Clarke Poem for string quartet Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen Shine you no more Approximately 50 minutes without interval Four completely different yet equally brilliant works, featuring music by two present-day musician-composers. Caroline Shaw wrote Entr’acte in 2011 after being inspired by Joseph Haydn’s technicolour quartet writing. Shine you no more is a lively, John Dowland-inspired reel by Danish String Quartet violinist Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen.
