Caterina McEvoy is an interdisciplinary composer / sound artist / musician based between Yorkshire and her native home Scotland working across various forms, including electroacoustic music / composition, sound art, improvised music, field recording, dance film soundtracks, and installation. Caterina regularly collaborates with choreographers, dance film-makers, visual artists and other musicians. She also works as a part-time lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where she teaches across BMus music courses. Caterina’s research-led practice focuses on environmental field recordings (EFR), soundscape composition, & multi-channel gallery installations, and recent publications have featured alongside Cosmo Sheldrake and Jez Riley French.

As a percussionist and flamenco guitarist, she regularly tours throughout the UK at venues and festivals, including the Edinburgh Fringe festival with Scottish based dance company Slanjayvah Danza. Other collaborations include Stems, who mix classical and cinematic art-rock and work with both silent film / visuals.

Outside the UK her sound art projects have featured in solo exhibitions including THE ROOM Contemporary Art Space, at Palazzo Ca’ Zanardi and at Misericordia Archives (Venice), and music compositions aired on The Lake Radio, (Denmark).

Ongoing professional practice includes current mentorship with acclaimed Scottish virtuoso classical guitarist and composer Simon Thacker through TRACS - Traditional Arts and Culture Scotland (TRACS) which supports the development of practitioners of traditional music, song, dance, storytelling and Scots and Gaelic language.

During her career, Caterina has collaborated on several projects with renowned artists: Alfia Nakipbekova (Flux and Flow), Slanjayvah Danza (6 Feet, 3 Shoes), Arts Council England, University of Sheffield (Sound Junction), British Film Institute / Live Cinema UK (Stems), Phil Sanger, ASMbly Lab (AXIOMATIC), The Lake Radio, Denmark, Elise Rhode-Hansen, Theatre in the Mill (Snapshots/A Trio of New Works /Whispers), Freedom Studios, Sally Goldsmith (Big Sky-Stories from the Edge), West Yorkshire Playhouse, Dr Franziska Schroeder & Belfast Queens University (Big Ears- AHRC), Wendy Houstoun & Matteo Fargion, The Hepworth Art Gallery, Artists North, Phoenix Dance Theatre, NSCD, Leeds City College, Cardiff University, University of Derby.
