About the Playlist

Track 1 - 'Addicted ft. Robyn Smith' by Samuriium

Third-year Production student Samuel MacDonald (Samuriium) combines tropical house and nu-disco to create his signature sound. 'Addicted ft. Robyn Smith' is a groovy, head-bopping synth-pop/nu-disco tune inspired by the likes of Dua Lipa and The Weeknd.

Track 2 - 'Bring Out the Fiya' by State of Satta

State Of Satta are a seven-piece dub-fusion band comprised of students from our Production, Jazz, Film & Classical programmes, brought together by a collective love of dub and reggae. On 12 Nov, the band are releasing their debut single 'Strong as Lions', with a dub remix by Ben Burnside (a third-year Production student and member of Digital Foundation and Stig of the Dub).

Track 3 - 'Eastern Avenue' by Jeffrey Hewer

Jazz guitarist, composer and Leeds Conservatoire staff member Jeffrey Hewer spent several years on the Toronto jazz scene before moving to England to study at Leeds Conservatoire for his Masters in Music Performance and Composition. Jeffrey has been playing for 20 years in many different musical settings – with duos, trios, quartets, and big bands.

Track 4 - 'Zero-Sum Game' by Maurice

Jazz-Folk Musician Maurice's new song, 'Zero-Sum Game' draws inspiration from the pain caused by trying to progress but getting nowhere. Maurice takes inspiration from artists such as Jeff Buckley, Wilco and the Beatles.

Track 5 -'Paradox' by LAMIA

LAMIA is a vocalist, electronic producer and graduate of our BA (Hons) Music (Popular) programme. LAMIA recently released her self-produced EP 'SIMULACRA', which is out now on all platforms.

Track 6 - 'cars' by cattleprod

'cars' is the debut single from the project cattleprod created by Josh Moseley, a first-year Electronic Music Production student. Cattleprod is a collective of songwriters, producers, and visual artists, inspired by various genres, including hyper pop, drum and bass and shoegaze.

Track 7 - 'White Lie' by Napoleon Complex

Marcus Chetwood studies Music Production at Leeds Conservatoire. Marcus' Manchester-based, psychedelic rock band, Napoleon Complex, has recently released their first single, 'White Lie'. The band draws influence from bands such as Biffy Clyro, Nirvana and Guns N' Roses.

Track 8 - 'I'll Be The One' by DC Productions

'I'll Be The One' is a deep house style track created by David Cox (DC Productions), a student on our Foundation Music Production course.

Track 9 - 'Slime' by Voila

First-year Film Music student Ethan Glover creates indie/alternative music under the name Voila. Ethan composes, performs, records and mixes everything in his music.

Track 10 - 'Damp' by Selts Katze

'Damp' by Selts Katze is the first track released from a collaboration between Leeds Conservatoire student Sean Bailey & graduate Daniel Patterson. Selts Katze are releasing their EP 'Lauschen' very soon. 'Lauschen' is German for eavesdrop, a name inspired by the field recordings of conversations on the tracks in their EP.

Track 11 - 'Fantasy Flight' by Duncan Abrahart

Duncan is a second-year BA (Hons) Music (Classical) student at Leeds Conservatoire who also runs the gaming society. As part of his gaming endeavours, he has become the composer and audio designer for a small upcoming independent game called Town of Trials. 'Fantasy Flight' is a piece of music featured in the game.

Track 12 - 'Wallace' by English Teacher

English Teacher is a Leeds based band made up of Leeds Conservatoire graduates. 'Wallace' was recently released through Swan Records. English Teacher has been described as having a "unique sound that, for many, feels somewhat nostalgic and familiar, making for a stunning listen." (Northern Life Magazine).

Track 13 - 'BEAT 4' by RAGS

Raghvendra (RAGS) is from Hyderabad, India and is currently studying on our Jazz with Pop programme. Rags is inspired by artists such as Tom Misch, Declan McKenna, Glass Animals, Cage the Elephant & Mac Miller.
