Legacy Scheme

About Leeds College of Music

Leeds College of Music is the region’s specialist music education institution, and one of only nine conservatoires in the UK.  Like other educational establishments, the College relies on its fundraising activities to supplement the statutory funding available, and we have developed a number of fundraising initiatives in recent years to enable us to offer additional opportunities to our students.

About the Legacy Scheme

The College’s Legacy Scheme enables individuals with an interest in music to make a bequest in their will to support the development of the musicians of the future through their studies at Leeds College of Music.  By making a bequest to the College, you can help to provide the best possible education and opportunities for our students to equip them for their musical career.

If you choose to make a bequest, you will be able to specify how you would like the legacy to be used.  For example, you could choose to support students by creating a scholarship or hardship fund, or you could make a permanent addition to the College’s resources by contributing to new facilities or the purchase of an instrument.  You may wish to support research activity linked to your own area of interest, or to contribute towards a teaching post for a particular instrument.  Alternatively, your legacy could be used for the general benefit of the College.

If you are a musician yourself, you may choose to reflect your own special interest by making a bequest of an instrument, some sheet music or recordings.  This would be a way of leaving something original and personal for the benefit of music students in generations to come.

Leeds College of Music has charitable status, and gifts to charities are free from Inheritance Tax.  We can provide information about how to leave a legacy, the different types of legacy, and options for how the legacy would be managed.

How we say thank you

Anyone leaving a legacy to the College will be entitled to membership of our Donors Club.  Members will receive a signed certificate and an invitation to the annual graduation ceremony, prize winners’ recital, and an annual reception with the Principal and Governors.  You will also be named as a donor on a plaque in the College’s reception area, in our prospectus and on our website, and you will receive a quarterly newsletter to keep you in touch with the College and its developments.
